Who is in your panel, how they got there, and how it moves.

Everything else in Alara Population Health is measured per member or across the panel. Panel 360 is where the panel itself is defined: who was attributed to you, when, by which method, and how membership has changed month to month.

What it is for

What Panel 360 does

Define the panel: who is attributed, when, and under which method, with the reasoning stored for every member so any attribution can be explained.

Track movement: new, retained, and terminated members each month, and a volatility rate that says how much the panel churns.

See the shape of the panel: age and gender, the split by provider, and where members live, down to the county.

The screens

The screens, in the order you would use them

  1. 1

    Method

A one-line note naming the attribution method in force, and a page that follows it step by step, including the fallback when a roster month names no provider.

  2. 2

    Enrollment Summary

Four movement tiles: total members, new this month, existing (retained), and terminated in the prior month.

  3. 3

    Membership Trend

The total over time and the monthly flow in and out, drawn as arrivals up and confirmed departures down.

  4. 4

    Demographics

Age and gender distribution for the attributed population.

  5. 5

    Provider panels

The panel split by provider, so each clinician's attributed members are visible as a list rather than a count.

  6. 6

    Geography

A county-level map of where members live.

Honest numbers

What the figures count

Every figure on every screen has a definition behind it. These are the ones this module runs on.

Total Members
Everyone attributed at any point in the period, including people who left partway through, so the count agrees with the revenue and cost figures beside it.
Active Members
The point-in-time headcount. Always smaller than Total Members; the gap between them is churn.
New, Retained, Terminated
Movement over a period. They do not add up to the active total, and are not meant to, because the total counts a moment.
Monthly Member Flow
Arrivals and confirmed departures by month, through the last complete month.
What can go wrong

What this module will not let you misread

  • Comparing the panel count to a headcount from another system

The other system is almost certainly counting at a point in time. Compare it with Active Members, not Total Members.

  • Reading panel growth as performance

The panel moves with your health plan's assignments, not with anything done in the product.

  • Expecting a member who left to vanish immediately

A member leaves by disappearing from the next roster, so the month someone leaves and the month it can first be counted are never the same month.

Where the data comes from

Monthly enrollment rosters from your health plans, which name each member's assigned provider, and claims for the claims-based attribution methods. Membership is stored one record per enrolled month, so the product can answer both "how many over the period" and "how many right now."

How Alara Healthcare uses it

Before any gap work starts, Alara Healthcare reconciles the plan roster against the practice's own records here, so the panel everyone works from is the panel the contract pays for.

Questions people actually ask

Panel 360 questions

Our member count here doesn't match the headcount from our enrollment system.

That is almost always a period-versus-moment difference. Total Members counts everyone attributed at any point in the period, including people who left, because the money figures beside it count their premium too. Active Members is the point-in-time headcount and is always smaller. The larger figure is the correct one for anything financial.

Which attribution methods are supported?

Three: payer roster, where the plan names the provider; MSSP/ACO, the Shared Savings Program's assignment rules; and MCP/PCF claims-based plurality over a lookback window you configure. The method in force is named at the top of the screen, and the reasoning for each member's attribution is stored with the record.

Why does a member who left still show in the panel?

Because departure is confirmed by absence from the next roster. The month a member leaves and the month that departure can first be counted are never the same month, and the Enrollment Summary tile says so.
